Welcome to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Website. My name is Jerry Hanen, and I am the Chairman of RYLA for 2010-2012. About 4 years ago I joined Rotary after attending meetings to form a new club. I quickly learned that there were many youth programs through Rotary and since that is my passion I thought that I should check it out. My daughter 
was selected as a RYLA delegate so I went to the camp for a day just to see what it was about. I thought that it looked like a great program and let the chairman know that I was interested in becoming more involved. Long story short, I became much more involved. I have found what I believe to be the best leadership training around for high school students. I have seen lives changed as a result of this 3 day weekend, most personally, my own daughter's life. The RYLA experience has changed my life as well. I know that for the next 3 years as chairman my life will be much different. It will be much busier, but I will be doing something that I love.
As you consider applying to be a delegate, be prepared for a life changing experience. As I read through the evaluations from last year I don't know how many times that I read of delegates who came with a negative attitude, but left with a whole new enthusiasm. If you feel that you have leadership potential and a desire to make the most of that potential, please take the time to apply to be a delegate. It is a weekend full of fun, friendship and learning that you will never forget.
