 Volunteer Application Process

Adult volunteers must complete the online application and then submit a signed background check authorization form.

Certain volunteers, who either have previously undergone the background check, or whose contact with delegates is limited to large group settings may be exempted, however all volunteers should assume the background check will be needed, and are willing to answer a few questions and provide their social security number.

The process is painless, and RYLA does not maintain any of the information required to initiate the process. Volunteer's privacy is important to us, but the safety and security of our delegates is foremost!

 Opportunities Abound

Hey Folks we have all kinds of things we need help on to make this next RYLA the best ever.

Who are the Volunteers?
RYLA Camp Volunteers are primarily Rotarians from all over District 5490 of Rotary International. Volunteers are highly motivated and successful leaders within their respective communities.

They are carefully chosen from many interested applicants to truly represent some of the best leaders in Arizona.

For the protection of all, volunteers agree to submit to a background check. There are many "RYLA veterans" who have attended many previous conferences.  Many people plan to return to the camp year after year!  Once you’ve been here with us – well we’ve found we just can’t find enough things for people to do…..

 RYLA Facilitator

This is possibly the best job for the weekend. Facilitators serve as mentors and guides to the delegates for the whole weekend – a hands-on leadership role. We have a training weekend to assist the new facilitators (if any - last year we were full up with folks!) that is required for new facilitators and suggested for you past facilitators (how else to pass on all that hard-earned knowledge?)

The basics: you’ll need to be with your assigned team (there are twelve groups) for each activity, ensure they are prepared for each activity and assist each program as required to make sure everybody both participates and learns to their ability. You’re a little nervous about helping out – we understand.

That’s why nobody does it alone, we like to have two people per team. There a couple of early morning and late evenings and oh, and did I mention that you’re gonna have the best time ever?!!

 General Volunteer

These folks help wherever they are needed.  They can be either  short or long term committments.  If you are an adult, and you are not a facilitator, you fall into this general category.

There is another type of general volunteer for the truly committed…..become a member of District 5490’s RYLA committee! Why, we’ll give those leadership skills a good workout and put a smile on your face besides.

 Junior Counselor

We started including a junior counselor/facilitator (JC) as a part of each team in 1999. These past RYLA Delegates assist the new RYLA Delegates and a selected team throughout the weekend in immeasurable ways.

All JC’s have attended RYLA Camp in the recent past and were so impressed with the program they decided to volunteer so they could do it all over again. We love to have JC’s on our team – but we make them work harder this time around!

 Youth Corp/Rotaract Advisor

Over the years we have some young adults that we just can’t seem to shake. They come back year after year. And we always have stuff for them to do.

We often need help with the programs – setting up, filling in or actually even presenting a program. We’re open to the possibilities and we’ve found they are too!

 Care Bears

As they were affectionately named by former delegates, our security personnel earned their name through long hours assuring a safe and secure weekend for all RYLA participants.

The Care Bears, identified by their orange arm bands and walkie talkies and are on duty around the clock throughout the RYLA weekend.   This is the choice for those seeking sleep deprivation therapy!!
