How do I become a DELEGATE?

The first step is to REGISTER on this Website.  Click the "Begin RYLA Application Process" icon on the left side of every page toward the top.  You will be asked for basic information, and an email will be sent to your personal email address with a security code in it.  Get the security code from the email you receive, and input it when requested.  You will have to log in a second time.

You will then complete the actual application process, including the completion of a Health History Questionaire.  You MUST have a digital photograph to upload with your application.  If you need help with this, contact your Rotary or Interact representative for assistance.

After you Submit your application, you will recieve two emails confirming your application: a copy of all the information you provided on the application, and a copy of the health history questionaire.

Print out BOTH email application confirmations and have your parents sign them.  They must sign both the application and the Medical information form.

If you know someone from your local Rotary or Interact Club, give the signed printed applications to your Rotary Representative.  If you don't know a Rotarian or an interact club leader, mail your application to

RYLA Registar, P.O. Box 2508, Prescott, Arizona 86302

You are now done with the application process, but you are not yet a delegate.  Your local rotary club will consider all the applications recieved by them and select the most qualified applicants.  If you are selected as a delegate, you will be contacted by your local Rotary Club representative.

You may also be selected as an alternate delegate.  If you are notified that you're an alternate – keep the RYLA weekend open on your calendar! Each year several alternates become last minute delegates.

INTERVIEW WITH YOUR LOCAL ROTARY CLUB

A local rotary club from District 5490 sponsors each delegate that attends RYLA. When we receive your application form, our Committee Coordinator will forward it to the local District 5490 club that sponsors students from your school.

Some clubs may also set up an individual interview with you. If selected as a delegate or alternate the local club will likely contact you and your parents to schedule a "family night" meeting to answer questions. Each club process is different, but mostly they just want to get to know you.

HOW DO I GET TO RYLA?

How to I get there? Another good question – we take care of that as well. Since Rotary District 5490 covers such a large area, we actually provide transportation from several key points to Prescott except for the folks from Prescott – we ask these Delegate’s parent(s) to drop their kids off directly at Camp Pinerock.

Due to the large number of delegates that we will be picking up, your prompt arrival is important to the success of our transportation system. We will have cell phones on the coach’s in the event you need to contact someone (emergencies only please). Please note the following:

  • Phoenix Area – We have arranged a comfortable coach to pickup all delegates at 4 designated stops. Please see the attached schedule on page 4 for detailed stops.
  • River Area – We have arranged a comfortable coach to pickup all delegates at Parker, Lake Havasu, I-40 and Highway 95, and Kingman. Bullhead City delegates will need to find transportation to the Kingman location. Needles will have to find transportation to the I-40 and Highway 95 location. Please see the attached schedule on page 5 for detailed stops.
  • Verde Valley, Cottonwood and Sedona - You will be contacted by phone and picked up in vans. You may contact Amy Andrews at 928-300-4538 regarding the transportation arrangements in this area.
  • Wickenburg - You will be picked up by me. Please contact me or I will contact you regarding times at 928-680-6313.
  • Prescott, Prescott Valley area, and Chino Valley - Please make arrangements with your family to drop you off at Camp Pinerock between the hours of 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM. If that is not possible, please contact Dennis Van at 928-486-0642 (up to 1:00 PM on Friday, January 18th). Please do not bring your personal vehicle.
  • Youth Exchange Students - Please contact the district Youth Exchange Chairman regarding your transportation.
  • Jr. Counselors and Adult Volunteers – You are responsible for your own travel to and from RYLA.
Selection as an Award Winner is a great honor, and a commitment from you to attend the conference. If, for any reason, you are not able to attend the RYLA Conference, please contact our Registrar immediately so that we can place an alternate delegate in your slot. For any difficulties on the date of transportation, please call Dennis Van at 928-486-0642.

More Questions? Wow, you really need to see our FAQs..

 WHAT IF I’M NOT SELECTED?

Not to worry – when the clubs select delegates, they also select alternates. You might be surprised how often we have alternates attend our RYLA weekend.

Often at the last minute – literally. Naturally we try to avoid this and ask each of our delegates to do their best to attend. Stuff happens though and that’s why we also select alternates.

In addition, we do look at students that have applied in a previous years a bit more closely. We like to think there’s room for everybody if they’d like to attend. Just remember to keep the weekend open for the possibility!

 ONE LAST THING

Yup, there’s no such thing as a free lunch – that’s what they say, right? And we at RYLA are no different.   We encourage every club that sponsors delegates to invite their sponsored delegate to a Rotary meeting to hear about your experiences.  It is a great opportunity for you to meet the group of "boring old adults" who thought enough of you to give you the opportunity of a lifetime!  Who knows, you might just discover those "stuffy old adults" aren't quite as boring or out of touch as you thought!!

This website serves Rotary International District 5490 and the RYLA Program for that District
If you are interested in RYLA, but do not live in West Phoenix. Northwestern Arizona or Needles, CA,
